Origin Story

I love stories. I always have. I didn’t take to reading very quickly, because I had trouble with memorization, and it wasn’t really until 3rd grade (after some aggressive and very effective tutoring in phonics) that I was able to read with any confidence; but I never stopped telling stories.

Stories can be many things. They can be fiction or nonfiction. They can be books; movies; video games; songs. We think of a separation between high art and low art, but I think it’s all art, and it all has value. I like to love and critically discuss everything, from Shakespeare to Harry Potter to Sailor Moon. I think of writing as an act of critical analysis, whether you’re writing a paranormal romance novel or a dissertation on Sherlock Holmes. Hopefully this blog is a mix of that.

If you want to get fancy, Lucy Softich lives in Portland, OR, and has a MA in Writing/Book Publishing, with a focus on Young Adult Literature, and a heaping disregard for literary snobbishness (she was an English Major–she’s seen and spouted her fair share). She works as a social media marketer, and has dabbled in developmental editing as a freelancer.

The art in her banner was done by the talented Robin Kaplan, with logo and banner design by the wonderful Angelica Mendoza.
